Military Families


For many years, the Monterey Peninsula has been home to military families during their time at the Defense Language Institute, the Naval Postgraduate School, or one of the many other military programs in the area. Stevenson's history has been intertwined with that of military families through their children's attendance at Stevenson School and the dedicated service of many retired officers who once served on the Stevenson faculty.

Realizing that your family's living experience in the Monterey area is unique, we have created this list of Frequently Asked Questions to address many of the issues you may have.

What if I missed the application deadline?

We understand that you may have recently relocated and may have missed our deadline by several weeks or even several months. We are flexible and able to work with you. Please contact us so we can help you complete the application process. Please specify you are military when you call.

How do I begin the application process?

Please contact us so we can introduce you to the Stevenson program and guide you through the application process. You can also visit the "Apply" pages on our website for grades PK-8 or grades 9-12.

Where exactly is Stevenson, and how can I learn more about the school?

Stevenson's Carmel Campus serves day students in the Pre-Kindergarten through 8th grade. The tuition for grades PK-8 is comprehensive and includes a before school and after school program. It also includes a summer camp program for grades 1-5. The Pebble Beach Campus serves boarding and day students in grades 9-12. Please call to set up a time to visit and tour our campuses.

Does Stevenson have a history of enrolling military families?

Yes. We are part of the greater Monterey Bay community, and we welcome and encourage military families to apply and enroll at Stevenson during their stay on the peninsula. We are happy to connect you to our current military families for your reference.

Is there a current military family I could talk to about their Stevenson experience?

We would be happy to put you in touch with a current military family. Please contact us and we will arrange for you to speak with one of our current military families.

Does Stevenson provide financial aid?

Stevenson distributes more than $5 million in need-based financial aid to students in K through Grade 12 each year. Our goal is to make a Stevenson education affordable for as many families as possible. What if we missed the deadline for applying for financial aid?

Even if you have missed our financial deadlines, we encourage you to contact us to check on the availability of financial aid.

Do both parents have to be employed in order to qualify for financial aid?

No. We realize that your circumstances are different from those of our civilian families and we recognize that in many cases moving frequently makes it difficult for both spouses to maintain employment. We encourage you to contact us to help you with the financial aid application and requirements.

Are credits earned from the Stevenson curriculum appropriate and transferrable when we transfer to our next tour?

Stevenson is a fully accredited independent college preparatory school, so credits earned at Stevenson are easily transferrable to other schools. Stevenson's curriculum is designed for students who plan to enroll in four year universities. As such, our credit requirements are equal to or greater than most schools in the country.
