Maddy Underwood was named the head girls volleyball coach at Stevenson School in the summer of 2018. Six months later she was hired in the Counseling and Resources Department and began teaching in the Math Department at the start of the 2019 school year. She immediately brought a high level of energy, enthusiasm, and organization to the volleyball program easily raising the competitive level every year since. Under Maddy’s leadership the interest in and number of participants turning out for the sport has increased yearly. During her prep career in Spokane, Washington, Maddy helped her team to the 4A state volleyball tournament where they placed third, seventh, and second place in her three varsity seasons. Maddy went on to play collegiate volleyball at Grand Canyon University in Phoenix for two seasons before transferring to Cal State Monterey Bay for three years. At CSUMB she was team captain for two years, leading her team to the CCAA conference tournament for the first time in program history. She was the Female Scholar Athlete of the year (2016-17), CCAA All Conference Honorable Mention (2016-17), CCAA All Conference First Team (2017-18), and Female Athlete of the year (2017-18). After playing her final season she worked as a volunteer assistant for the CSUMB volleyball team for the 2018-19 season.
