Stevenson Annual Fund FAQ
Q. What is the Annual Fund?
The Annual Fund supports the annual operating budget, contributing to faculty professional development, financial aid, athletics, arts, and much more. It makes an immediate impact on our students’ education and allows the school to offer more resources to our students and faculty than would be possible if we relied on tuition revenue alone.
Without your support, we would not be able to offer the Stevenson education as we know it today.
Q. Why is parent participation important?
Participation matters. We strive for one hundred percent parent participation. Charitable foundations and major philanthropists view a high parent participation rate as a marker of community health and investment in the school’s mission and educational philosophy. Furthermore, since all current students benefit from gifts to the Annual Fund, we encourage every family to contribute at whatever level they are able.
Q. How much should I give?
All gifts, from $10 to $50,000 are very much appreciated. Most importantly, we hope for widespread participation from our community. We hope every Stevenson community member will make our school a priority in their philanthropic planning and participate at a level that is fitting to their financial circumstances.
As you’re considering the size of your gift, you may wish to review information about our leadership giving levels:

Q. How and when will my family be contacted about making a gift?
The Stevenson fiscal year runs from July 1 to June 30. You will initially hear from us in the early fall, as kick off our annual drive for parent participation. All Annual Fund pledges to the school must be fulfilled by June 30 of each year.
Q. How do I obtain a matching gift?
Many companies match gifts made by employees to nonprofit organizations such as Stevenson. The matched gift counts toward your Stevenson giving total, and your company receives recognition. Check with your human resources department about their matching gift opportunities and follow their procedures.
Q. Why doesn't tuition cover the full cost of a Stevenson education?
The largest part of Stevenson’s operating budget is covered by tuition. While one might expect that tuition would cover all of the operating expenses, it does not. This is also the case at other independent schools in the area and around the country. The school deliberately sets tuition below full cost in order to keep the school more affordable to a wider range of students and to provide community members with opportunities to support the school with tax-deductible, philanthropic commitments. As a community, we believe this practice is conducive to building the type of inclusive school we all wish to have.
Q. I'm an alumnus/alumna, why is my participation important?
Many of our alumni tell us that Stevenson was a transformative educational experience that prepared them for college and beyond. Just as gifts to Stevenson were crucial toward your experience here, your gift ensures that the School can provide the same remarkable experience for the current generation. In addition, strong alumni support provides a tangible measure of the value that graduates place on their Stevenson education.
