Jeff and Beth Young Athletic Fields
Stevenson is raising funds to build a new synthetic turf athletic field for our field hockey, soccer, and lacrosse teams; to resurface the track; to upgrade the current football field by adding synthetic turf, and rebuild our bleachers, press box, and snack shack; and add bathrooms to the field complex.
This project reflects our respect for the history and tradition of athletics at Stevenson, our commitment to students’ health and well-being, and our belief that athletics is a prime site for experiential learning and for establishing lasting values and lifelong relationships.
The new facility will be named after long-time faculty member Jeff Young and his wife Beth. For more than thirty years, Jeff Young embodied Stevenson's commitment to athletic excellence and true sportsmanship. As the athletic director, football and lacrosse coach, mentor, and colleague, Coach Young taught students how to work together, compete with grit and determination, and show respect for self and others in both victory and defeat. And, in the finest tradition of the many faculty couples that dedicate their lives to this community, during this period Beth Young was an equally inspiring presence in the lives of students and faculty.
Phase One (COMPLETE)After the AP environmental science class removed over 300 pine saplings from the area for replanting, the trees were cleared from the new field site.
Phase Two (COMPLETE)
The site was graded and synthetic turf was installed for a new soccer/lacrosse/field hockey field. The new turf has natural infill rather than rubber crumb. Additional parking, pathways, and retaining walls were also constructed.
Phase Three (April 2018 - September 2019)
The new press box and bleachers were installed in Spring 2018. The school continues to raise funds to resurface our existing track and install a new synthetic playing surface on our current football field. We hope this project will be completed by the time school reopens in September 2019.
