Varsity Boys Basketball Splits Two Games on the Road but Remains in the Title Hunt

Surviving a blistering first-half shooting by the Hollister Haybalers which saw them hit 10 three-point baskets, the Pirates used a stifling defense in the second half to pick up the win at Hollister by a score of 62-56. Luke Driscoll ’20 supplied the offensive punch with 26 points. Showing great balance, Benjamin Soria ’20 added 11, Evan Johnson ’22 10, Sam Fontaine ’20 9, and Dylan Santos ’20 added 6 points to the winning effort.

At North Monterey County this last Tuesday the Pirates dropped a 64-60 contest to the Condors. The win by NMC put Stevenson, NMC, and Christoper all with 7-2 records going into the last league match up Thursday night. The Pirates will take on Monte Vista Christian on the home court. Against NMC Luke Driscoll continued the hot hand with 25 points followed by Evan Johnson with 19, Sam Fontaine with 9, and Benjamin Soria with 6.

JV Boys Basketball Drops a Pair of Mission Division Games on the Road

The young Pirates dropped two league matches to tough opponents on the road last week. Last Friday at Hollister the JVs fell 64-39 to the Haybalers. Peter Butler ’22 was the only offensive threat for the Pirates tossing in 13 points in the game. Last Tuesday at first place North Monterey County the Pirates turned in one of their best efforts for a half against the Condors trailing by only two at the half, 34-32. The offense could not keep up in the second half with the Condors running out to a 69-43 victory. Weile Zheng ’22 led the scoring with 11 followed by Trent Toole ’23 with 10.

Girls Varsity Basketball Cypress Division Champs with win over Carmel. Beat Soledad in the Senior Game 52-37

Playing in front of a boisterous home crowd, the Pirate varsity girls earned the Cypress Division crown with the 40-33 win over rival Carmel. Rhea Cosand ’22 led the scoring parade with 14 points, Kailey Clymo ’21 added 9 points, and Kiren Kanazawa ’20 contributed 6 points.

The Senior Night game was against the Soledad Aztecs who put up a good fight but in the end succumbed to the Pirates 52-37. Rhea Cosand led the scoring attack with 14 points and was followed closely by Kailey Clymo with 13 points and 1 charge and Dana Diniz ’21 with 10 points. Playing their last regular season home game were seniors Nisha Singh, Angela Zhang, Faith Pinnow, and Kiran Kanazawa.
