Varsity Girls Basketball Team Completes 10-0 run through Cypress Division
The Pirates handed the Breakers a loss on the road in Pacific Grove last Thursday evening. The win produced an undefeated Cypress Division league season at 10-0. Rhea Cosand ’22 tossed in 15 points to lead the offensive attack closely followed by Gaby Perez ’22 with 13 points and freshmen Sydney Clymo with 8 points. The girls varsity has been seeded number #3 in the CCS Division V playoff bracket and earned first and second round byes. They will host a quarterfinal game on Tuesday, February 25 at 5:30 p.m. in the Pirate Gym. The girls head into the postseason with a regular season record of 20-4.
Pirate Boys Varsity Basketball Earns share of Mission Division Championship
The Pirate boys varsity ended the Mission Division regular season with a thrilling 59-35 win in front of a boisterous home crowd last Thursday evening. With the full support of ‘The Jungle’ the Pirates raced out to a comfortable lead and never looked back. The Pirates clinched a share of their first league title since 2009 behind 23 points from Luke Driscoll ’20. Sam Fontaine ’20 added 12 and Benjamin Soria ’20 contributed 8 points and 6 blocks. They ended up 8-2 in league play.
In a non-league rivalry game against Pacific Grove this past Tuesday the Pirates dropped a close 58-52 game to the cross-peninsula Breakers. Luke Driscoll scored 27 and was supported by Evan Johnson ’22 with 13, Benjamin Soria with 6, and Sam Fontaine with 6 points respectively. The loss concluded the regular season with a record of 17-7. The Pirates earned the #2 seed in the CCS Division V playoffs and will have byes into the quarterfinals where they will play a home game on Tuesday, February 25 at 7:00 p.m.
Boys JV Basketball Wins Last Two Games to Conclude Winning Season
The JV Boys Basketball team finished up Mission Division play at home with a 56-41 win over Monte Vista Christian earning a two game sweep over the Mustangs. Kyle McTameny ’22 led the charge with 15 points. Freshman Trent Toole added 12 points and Josh Peyton ’21 contributed 11 points. The win evened the Mission Division record at 5-5.
In a non-league rivalry game against Pacific Grove last Tuesday, the Pirates jumped out early and never let off the gas defeating the Breakers 52-35. The freshmen duo of Auden Forgus ’23 and Trent Toole led the way with Forgus scoring 14 points and Toole 10 points. The win concluded the season for the young PIrates with a respectable 12-7 overall record.
Girls Varsity Soccer Ends Season with Winning Effort over Gonzales
The 2-0 shutout win over the Spartans ended the season for the Pirate girls. Larkin Stephenson ’21 had the first goal from an assist by Kira Seggerty ’22. Helen Yang ’20 scored a penalty kick. It was a wonderful game to end the season!
Boys Varsity Tennis Opens Season with Win Over Aptos
The boys varsity tennis team kicked off the 2020 season in fine fashion with a 5-2 win over Aptos. Singles players Logan Eckert ’20, Adam Hidas ’20, Jack Page ’23, and Peter Akcan ’22 carried the day for the Pirates against the non-league rival Mariners. The Mariners did not make it easy for the Pirates, however, winning two out of the three closely contested doubles matches.
