Girls Water Polo Wins First-Ever CCS Playoff Match
The Pirate girls water polo team won its first-round CCS playoff match against Ann Sobrato High School of Morgan Hill 8-6 last Saturday at Santa Cruz High School. The fourth-seeded Pirates were down at the half but stormed back in the last two quarters playing stellar defense and overcoming a scoring deficit in the first half to secure the win. In the Sobrato match Kate Morgan ’22 scored four goals aided by Sofia Bozzo ’23 with two while Bella Carminati ’21 and Gaby Perez ’22 each added one to the winning cause.

Best Girls Water Polo Season in History Comes to an End in Overtime Loss
The Stevenson girls water polo season ended on Tuesday in a gut-wrenching 10-9 overtime loss to Santa Cruz High School in a second round CCS playoff match. The match ended the best season in program history and with many key players returning prospects for another long playoff run for next year looks promising. Kate Morgan ’22  and Sofia Bozzo ’23 led the Pirate attack on offense. Morgan tossed in four goals with Bozzo chipping in three. Bella Carminati ’21 and Gaby Perez ’22 each scored one apiece. Congratulations to the team and coaches for a fantastic season representing Stevenson School.

Top-Seeded Boys Water Polo Earns First Round Win 16-4
The Pirate boys water polo team defeated Saratoga High School 16-4 Saturday at Santa Cruz High School. Saratoga entered the first round with a season record of 17-5 but was no match for the quicker, deeper, and stronger Pirates. The Pirates were led by a strong team defense anchored by goalkeeper Owen Monke ’22, who allowed only one goal over three quarters while compiling 10 saves. On offense, Patrick Powers ’21 and Luca Bozzo ’21 brought high energy and intensity on the counter attack while lefties Daniel Mayer ’20 and Tristan Evans ’23 controlled the tempo. Jasper Dale ’22 played lockdown defense and Wyley Dale ’23 commanded great attention in the middle of the pool. Stevenson, now 23-2 overall, will play a second round match Wednesday at Gunn High School against St. Ignatius Prep from the powerful West Catholic League. The Pirates hold a win over St. Ignatius earlier in the season in the home pool.

Boys Water Polo Season Comes to an End in Second Round Loss
The Stevenson boys water polo season ended Wednesday night at Gunn High School in Palo Alto with a hard-fought 13-12 defeat to St Ignatius Prep. The Pirates fell just short of reaching their season-long goal of completing for a CCS title in a hotly contested game where the winning goal was scored within the last minute of play. The Pirates ended the season with a  record of 23-3, by far the best in program history. Many key performers will return next season to ensure Stevenson keeps its place among the best teams in the CCS.

Varsity Football Beats Pajaro Valley 50-0 in Last Football Game of the 2019 Season
With a much-improved defense over last year, the Pirate football team recorded its third shutout of the current campaign with the rout over Pajaro Valley at Cabrillo College in Aptos. The team ended league play with a 3-2 record and overall at 6-3. The Pirates were up 50-0 at the half with the entire bench seeing considerable playing after. In the finale, Tyler Olson ’21 had 11 rushes for 211 yards good for four TDs, all in the first half. He also tacked on six extra points. QB Dylan Santos was 6/8 passing for 119 yards and two TDs aided by his favorite receiver Evan Johnson ’22 who had three receptions for 70 yards and three TDs. Connor Cosand ’21 added four receptions for 61 yards and threw a 12 yard TD pass to Johnson. With many key performers returning next year the prognosis looks great for Pirate football in 2020.

JV Football Team Wins Season Finale over Pajaro Valley 22-18
Led by an all-around stout defense, the Pirate JV team won its last game of the season over Pajaro Valley. Trent Toole ’23 and Charlie Conner ’23 provided stellar play while alternating at the QB position and the offense was shored up by Auden Forgus ’23 who ran back a 75 yard kickoff for a TD. With many of the JV players joining the varsity next year, the 2020 season should be a memorable one.

Pirate Sailors Finish Seventh in the Newport Beach Regatta
Stevenson placed seventh out of thirty teams in the year's second statewide regatta, held at the Newport Harbor Yacht Club on November 9-10. In the Silver Fleet A Division, Gage Bradford '20, Luc DuPreez '23, Schuyler Jones '21 and Audrey Yip '21 took turns in the two-person FJ sloop for six races in light winds under sunny skies. Their best finish was a seventh by Bradford and DuPreez.

The B Division boat was sailed by Tony Chen '21, Ryan Marquess '22 and Yip. With three 2nd place finishes, they combined for the best tally in their division.

The Pirates will close out the fall season on November 16, vying for the Stevenson Trophy on their home course against teams from Santa Cruz and Monterey.

Girls Tennis Competes in the CCS Tennis Tournament - Drops First Round Match
The season came to an end Monday at the Beach Club in Pebble Beach where the Pirate girls tennis team dropped a first round match to Los Altos 7-0. The loss against a very strong field of playoff teams ends the 2019 campaign for the Pirates, yet another very successful season in the long history of the program. With several key players returning next year the future of Pirate girls tennis remains very competitive.

Pirate Doubles Duo of Craven/Allen Stroke Their Way  into CCS Competition
The Stevenson tennis doubles duo of Taylure Craven and Rachel Allen will complete next Tuesday in the CCS doubles tournament at the Bay Club in Los Gatos. Taking on the number one seeded doubles team from Los Altos, they begin play at noon. Should they win, they would advance to the quarter and semifinals held on Wednesday. Good luck Pirates!

Winter Sports Programs Start Up
The winter sports program at Stevenson is just now underway with early practices in full swing. Non-league competition will kick off on Thursday, November 21 when the Pirate boys basketball team visits Marina High School for the annual Sportsmanship Game. The non-counting exhibition game will be the first game played in the new Marina gym. Soon thereafter, all winter sports will being non-league play featuring both boys and girls basketball and boys and girls soccer teams. It portends to be another great winter for Pirate sports.
