Can my child attend only part of the program? Can my child arrive late or leave early?

Core Leadership California is an intensive learning environment designed specifically to support inner exploration and authentic connection with others. It has distinct opening, deepening, and closing periods. In order to uphold the safety and trust created in this learning environment, we require that all students attend the entire program.

Is there transportation available to and from the airport for students?

There are three airports that serve the greater Monterey Peninsula: San Francisco (SFO), San Jose (SJC), or Monterey (MRY)--not to be confused with Monterrey, Mexico! Students are responsible for securing transportation from airports to the Stevenson School. Please provide your travel itinerary to the Stevenson School prior to the start of the program. For more information about travel, please visit the travel page on this website.

May I visit a student during the session?

We request that students do not have outside visitors during the program. This is to enable the fullest possible investment in the learning experience.

Can a student bring and use a cell phone during the program?

Cell phones are allowed, though there are several periods throughout the day when students will not have access to their phone.

What is the weather like at Stevenson during the program?

During the summer in Pebble Beach, the climate can vary greatly from dense fog to hot summer sun. Usually during the mornings, it is foggy but by the afternoon it becomes mild and sunny. Normal temperatures range between 55-75°F (13-24°C).

Concerning the health form, does my child need to be seen by a doctor before attending the program?

Yes, it is required that each camper see a physician in order to fill out the Medical Form, which is found in the Enrollment Forms section of the online registration.

If, however, you are a Stevenson student, the form is not required unless there have been recent updates to your health history. All students should note allergies and any prescribed medications. Be sure to be accurate when recording your height and weight because we will be renting a wetsuit for you in advance of your arrival.

How demanding will the outdoor portion of the program be?

The hiking, surfing, and sea kayaking will be moderately challenging and should be suitable for all students.  Those students who want to challenge themselves further will have opportunities to surf.

Can I apply as an international student?

Core Leadership California is a summer program and international students attend with a travel visa. International students are also invited to arrive on campus a day earlier than most students so they can begin to settle and recover from the effects of jet lag. Travel arrangements must be made in advance and communicated with the Core Leadership staff.

Can I apply if I can’t afford the program?

Core Leadership California provides as many scholarships as possible for deserving and talented applicants. 53% of our students are on financial aid and attracting and retaining students from diverse backgrounds, including socio-economic backgrounds, is a priority. To apply for financial aid, please fill out the appropriate sections of the Core Leadership California application. Please note: if you are applying as a current college freshman, you are seeking financial aid, and you are accepted, we will ask you to inquire about receiving a scholarship from your college, a grant from a foundation, or support from a third party like a Rotary Club. Please begin the process of exploring summer scholarship opportunities as soon as possible. Most of our financial aid currently supports high school students.

I missed the deadline. Can I still apply?

We will receive and thoughtfully consider applications submitted after the deadline, but priority will be given to those who completed the application on the posted dates.
