Tier Two (Don't Delete)

Grade Reporting

The Upper Division (Grades 9-12) reports on a student's progress seven times each year:

  • Early Warning (3W)
  • Fall Midterm (FM)
  • Fall Term (FT)*
  • Winter Midterm (WM)
  • Winter Term (WT)*
  • Spring Midterm (SM)
  • Spring Term (ST)*

* Only these end-of-term grades appear on a student's transcript.

The first is an "early warning" grade report after the first three weeks of school (3W) when teachers only report grades for students about whom they have a concern (usually a C+ or below).

For more detailed information about grades for each grading period, see "Description of Grade Reports" on the right.

Grade Point Average (GPA)

Pebble Beach Campus students receive letter grades for their academic courses with the associated grade value:

A (4.0), A- (3.7),
B+ (3.3), B (3.0), B- (2.7),
C+ (2.3), C (2.0), C- (1.7),
D+ (1.3), D (1.0), D- (0.7),
F (0.0)

and either Pass or F for music lessons and after school activities and sports.

Honors and AP courses receive extra weight of 0.3 grade points.

Note that F is a failing grade. D+, D, and D- grades are not college recommending and will subsequently not meet admission standards at most colleges. An Inc (Incomplete) is a temporary grade indicating that the student has been given the opportunity to complete work before the final grade is calculated.

Two types of four-point grade point average (GPA) are computed for students at the end of each grading period.

  • The Overall GPA includes the term grades from all of the student's Stevenson courses. This is our official GPA, the one that is reported in our grade reports, our transcripts, and to colleges.
  • The Core GPA includes term grades from all Stevenson courses that meet four days a week or more often. This is strictly an internal GPA, and is not included on a student's official grade reports or transcript. It offers additional material for the school to use in assessing the student's overall academic performance, as many colleges and universities across the country recalculate applicants' GPAs based on a standard somewhat like this one.

We also provide a Cumulative GPA (cum GPA) that includes the term grades from all Stevenson courses taken in grades 10, 11, and 12. This GPA is reported at the end of every trimester at the bottom of the transcript starting at the end of the fall trimester of grade 10.
