College Center

As a college preparatory school, Stevenson places great emphasis on finding the right college fit for each individual student. This is accomplished through:

  • one-on-one counseling with one of our team of experienced college counselors, beginning in the junior year
  • more than 15 day and evening workshops and presentations for students and parents
  • on-campus visits from more than 70 college admissions officers
  • two annual college tours to universities and colleges in Southern California and the east coast.

The College Center, located in the Rosen Family Student Center, has compiled an extensive online and physical library of resources available to both students and parents including articles, books, college catalogs and viewbooks, videos, and files of available scholarships and loan programs.

College Tours

One of the unique features that distinguishes Stevenson School from most other private secondary schools is the opportunity for students to take part in the two optional college tours sponsored by the College Center. Juniors may register for the three-day Southern California tour of colleges which begins during Parent's Weekend in October, and/or the seven-day East Coast College Tour which departs after the last winter exam in February.

The goal of these tours is to help students learn about the various types of institutions available to them, to help them learn more about what it is like to be a college student, to learn what they like and do not like about certain types of schools, and to begin to take the year-long college application process seriously. Members of the college counseling staff and other faculty members accompany between forty and sixty students on these trips, which usually involve a tour of the campuses, information sessions with admissions officers, and personal meetings with Stevenson alumni who are currently on the campuses. The group travels by bus, visiting several colleges each day.

On the Southern California tour we start with Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo and work our way through San Diego and Los Angeles seeing schools in the UC system, mid-sized institutions like Loyola Marymount, and smaller liberal arts campuses like Occidental.

For the East Coast College Tour, the group flies into Boston, spends time in Connecticut, Pennsylvania and New York City, and finishes in Washington, D.C.

College Tour dates for the current academic year:

  • Southern California College Tour: October 15 - 17, 2017
  • East Coast College Tour: February 24 - March 2, 2018

On-Campus College Visits

Each year the College Center hosts representatives from colleges and universities who visit our campus to meet face-to-face with students and answer their questions. The 2016-2017 school year brought over 100 college representatives to Stevenson. Students can benefit greatly from the one-on-one time spent with the visiting reps who are usually the first readers of their applications. Personal contact helps the rep attach a face to the application, demonstrates a student's interest in the college, and gives Stevenson students and College Center staff a person to contact directly for questions.

A complete schedule of the colleges visiting the Pebble Beach Campus is available on Naviance, the website we use to help students with college planning and applications.
